Increasing access and improving the quality of ongoing education activities in Maiduguri

Overview:

This project was implemented against the background of the Boko Haram conflict that has displaced more than 2.2 million persons across Northeastern Nigeria, of which 55% are children. The influx of IDP has put enormous pressure on the existing schools resulting in many displaced children not participating in educational activities. There has been improvement in the number of open schools and actors providing support for education; however, school attendance has still been low with 68% of children not attending any form of school, either formal or informal. Save the Children has integrated ECCD into its child protection response in Maiduguri, targeting children ages 3-5 with early child care and development interventions which promote early literacy and numeracy alongside psycho-social support. Through integration of ECCD activities within 5 Child Friendly Spaces, SCI has reached 2,103 children and more children are continuing to register including those children who are above the 3-5 a
