Promoting Dialogue within Communities for Security and Safety of Schools in Nigeria

Overview:

This project promotes community dialogue and stakeholder engagement that will facilitate school safety and security in Bauchi and Borno states (North East Nigeria), Kaduna (North West Nigeria) and the Federal Capital Territory Abuja (North Central). Through a participatory approach the project builds the capacity of schools, communities and civil society to engage authorities on school security and safety programs. This project is being implemented in 30 schools in each of the target states. In Borno state, these are in three LGAs – Chibok, Konduga and MMC. One key outcome of the project is the publication of the Minimum Standard Guideline for Safety and Security of Schools in Borno State and the establishment of the project steering committee made up of community leaders, principals, other key stakeholders and establishment and training of the Safe School Alliance Committee with members from target and non-target schools.
